You download Hearth and Hamlet from Steam — there is no other official source. The full game unlocks on August 19, 2026 at 17:00 UTC for Windows and SteamOS/Linux, and the free demo (roughly 569 MiB) lives on the same store page — though the demo’s current availability is To be confirmed, as its page began returning redirects around August 14, 2026.

The short answer

  • Official platform: Steam (Windows + SteamOS/Linux)
  • Full game: August 19, 2026, 17:00 UTC
  • Demo: Free, ~568.79 MiB download
  • Storage needed: At least 1 GB free
  • Demo availability: To be confirmed

Where to download Hearth and Hamlet

The only official place to download Hearth and Hamlet is the Steam store page (appid 4315040). The game is developed by Phorust Studios and published by Runic Forge and Gamersky Games, and it has no other official store presence: there is no official page on itch.io, and no console store listing.

The store page currently shows the game as “not yet available,” with a Planned Release Date of Aug 19, 2026 and an “Add to your wishlist” button. Wishlisting is the reliable way to get notified when the download becomes available.

Downloading the full game at launch

The full game unlocks on August 19, 2026 at 17:00 UTC — 10:00 AM Pacific, 1:00 PM Eastern, 6:00 PM in the UK, 7:00 PM in Central Europe, and 1:00 AM on August 20 in China. See the release date page for a full timezone table.

At launch, download the game from the Steam store page as you would any Steam title. The game requires at least 1 GB of free storage per the official requirements, and Steam may need additional working space while installing or updating. Windows 10 (64-bit) and SteamOS/Linux with Ubuntu 20.04 or newer are the supported platforms. See the platforms page for the full platform breakdown.

Downloading the free demo

The Hearth and Hamlet demo is free on the official Steam page. It launched on April 20, 2026 for Steam Medieval Fest, and the current reference build is v1.0.46, released on June 15 for Steam Next Fest.

  • Download size: approximately 568.79 MiB (Windows depot, per SteamDB records cited by the community wiki)
  • Installed size: approximately 677.30 MiB
  • Storage: keep at least 1 GB free as listed in the official requirements
  • Windows only for the demo listing — Linux or Steam Deck support for the demo is not officially confirmed

The demo is a preview with a defined progression boundary, not the entire kingdom campaign. Expect roughly one to two hours of play for a normal run (a community estimate, not an official limit). Read the demo page for a full breakdown of content and the v1.0.46 changes.

Demo availability is currently uncertain

Since around August 14, 2026, the demo’s Steam page (appid 4564480) has been returning a 302 redirect to the Steam home page, the Steam API reports the app as unavailable, and players in the community have reported being unable to play the demo. Whether this is a temporary issue or a permanent removal ahead of launch is To be confirmed.

This does not affect the full game’s release on August 19. If the demo is unavailable when you try to download it, the safest assumption is to wait for an official statement from the developer rather than hunting for third-party mirrors.

System requirements before you download

Both the full game and the demo share the same basic footprint. Official requirements from the Steam store page:

A 64-bit processor and operating system are required. Check the system requirements page for updates.

How to launch the demo (and fix startup crashes)

Steam exposes three launch choices for the Windows demo:

  • Recommended — starts with the game’s default renderer
  • Vulkan — forces the Vulkan renderer with --rendering-driver vulkan
  • Compatibility — forces OpenGL 3 with --rendering-driver opengl3

Start with Recommended. If you get a black screen, a startup crash, or renderer-related visual problems, retry with Compatibility. These launch options were added to help players with startup crashes, so they are the first thing to try if the game will not open.

Avoid unofficial download sources

Some third-party sites mirror the demo — for example, the Chinese download portal 3DM hosts it, labeled as the official Steam demo resource. These mirrors can be convenient, but they are not official and can be outdated or modified. Use Steam as the download source rather than unofficial installers or archives.

Note that itch.io has no official Hearth and Hamlet page — a site search only returns other games with similar names. If you see a Hearth and Hamlet download on itch.io, it is not official.

Demo saves and the full game

Do not assume a demo save will carry into the purchased game. The v1.0.46 patch included backend changes and explicitly made older demo saves incompatible, and there is currently no official answer about transfer to the August 19 build. Plan on starting again at launch unless the developer confirms transfer support. See the saved files page for the latest evidence.
